So what is a vinyl decal?

Vinyl decals are graphics that are machine cut out of sheets of vinyl. The blade is extremely sharp, but not very harmful due to its size and shape. It is designed to cut just deep enough, 2-3mm, through the vinyl, but not through the wax liner that the vinyl is adhered to.

After the machine is done, the vinyl that is not part of the design is removed. This process is called "weeding". After the excess is removed, all that should be left is the final design. Low-tac masking tape is then applied over the remaining graphic to it can be transferred in one piece and lined up properly during installation. The tape also ensures the decal is not damaged during the next steps.

After installed, the wax liner and masking tape are removed, only leaving the precision-cut design from the beginning. See the photo below.

Decal Installation

Instructions for installing graphics are very simple. We offer install kits for larger graphics that include application fluid and squeegees, but for small graphics a credit card can do the trick. Download the following PDF file for simple installation instructions.

What can vinyl decals be applied to?

Vinyl decals can be applied to any non-porous surface. The most common areas are car windows or a cured painted surface. Just about every car is properly cured, do not place decals on rusted surfaces or primer only, they will not stay.

Decals can also be applied to the walls of your home and will not damage the paint. To remove, use a hair-dryer or heat gun on low to heat the adhesive to easily peel the decals off the surface. If applied to glass, the can generally be removed with a razor blade or scraper, an inexpensive tool at any hardware store.
